This series of articles is here to help our users understand a little bit about what goes into our Movement Sensor Pad and how it works.
We're looking at what we call "false movements" this time and how they affect the performance of the Sensor Pad.
Our Movement Sensor Pad technology is centred around the detection of movement, from when baby is awake to when baby is asleep. When in their crib, each movement of your precious little ones is being picked up by the Sensor Pad.
This ranges from wiggles and giggles to the soft raise and fall of baby's chest. Each of these movements are picked up by the Sensor Pad, which is constantly talking to the Nursery/Camera Unit and saying "don't worry, baby is doing their thing, no need to alarm".
Like adults, when babies go into a deep sleep they become incredibly still. Unlike adults, babies can go so still that they could all be world champions at musical statues.
Now the Sensor Pad at this point waits approx 20 seconds, if no movement is detected, it nudges the Nursery/Camera Unit to say "hey baby!" which brings your little one out of their deep sleep state and encourages a bit of movement from them. The Sensor Pad picks up the movement and is made happy, giving the okay to Nursery/Camera Unit to go back to sleep.
We call this the "rouse alarm". However, if baby produces no further movement: the Sensor Pad will tell the Nursery Unit, which will then tell the Parent Unit, who in turn gives a big shout to baby's carer, making them aware baby needs in checking on, this is the "main alarm".
It's a pretty simple process, but it can be interrupted by those false movements.
No two homes have the same exact environment, there are a wide range of possible situations that may cause false movement. We can't name them all but common examples are:
- A large load driving past causing vibration
- trains, planes and cars etc.
- Movement from inside the nursery/sleeping area
- fans during hot weather, mobile above baby's crib
- People walking past/through the sleeping area
- even more so in homes with wooden floors
- Sleeping next to the Moses Basket/Travel crib
- movement from adult in bed can be registered by the Sensor Pad, even when asleep
